SSMF
Most sports teams have a mascot walking the sidelines, but in Siouxland an equally common sideline presence is a member of the Siouxland Sports Medicine Foundation team watching over area athletes. As the tri-state area’s largest sports medicine program, SSMF serves 40 area high schools, five colleges and universities and two local professional teams, providing athletic training and/or orthopaedic surgeon services. The Siouxland Sports Medicine Foundation, SSMF, a partnership between CNOS and the Siouxland Surgery Center, consists of the areas only Sports Medicine Fellowship Trained Orthopaedic Surgeons, 21 certified athletic trainers, 4 of which are Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists and 8 Strength & Conditioning Assistants that have been a trusted resource for athletes of all ages in Siouxland since 1992. Not only do coaches and parents rely on SSMF experts to help them make informed decisions about injuries to young prep athletes, but also weekend warriors of all ages with activity related injuries look to CNOS for the best care and rehabilitation guidance.
SSMF athletic trainers are dispatched to area schools, to help coaches, trainers and athletes prevent and treat injuries, keeping athletes performing at their peak. Trainers also focus on educating young athletes to ensure they’ll be able to enjoy active lifestyles long into adulthood. Parents now suffering the adverse affects of their own high school athletic days without the benefit of athletic trainers and certified physical therapists are firm supporters of the preventative care and training these programs provide.
When injury does occur, an array of options are available to patients through the CNOS network, including orthopaedic surgeons with expertise in hand, joint, trauma and pediatrics. Physicians work closely with CNOS rehabilitation specialists both on-site and in satellite offices around Siouxland to help patients return to peak performance quickly.
With increasing participation in organized sports at even younger ages, the Siouxland Sports Medicine Foundation team continues to develop close relationships with area athletic programs. Through power and performance camps, school and sport specific strength, agility and conditioning programs, athletes of all ages are benefiting from their expertise and quality care.
Members of the Siouxland Sports Medicine Foundation team work with thousands of athletes, but in this close-knit community, patients are often also friends and neighbors. Whether it’s walking the sidelines, evaluating an injury in the locker room or keeping watch from the bleachers, Siouxland Sports Medicine Foundation is part of the team every season.
